The Government reminds the general public of the need to abide by the measures introduced for curbing the spread of the COVID-19 virus (16.03.2020)

The Government repeats that it is absolutely necessary to abide by the measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus throughout the population. The measures are set out in an Order adopted in implementation of the Law of 25 March 1885 on measures adopted in order to counter the introduction and spread of contagious diseases, published in issue A 149 of the Official Journal (Mémorial).

The closure measures affecting premises in the cultural, recreational, sport and hotel & catering sectors are absolutely necessary in order to protect the general health of the population, given the pathogenic and contagious nature of the virus. The same applies to the rules restricting traffic on the public highway to the following activities exclusively:

  • buying food, pharmaceutical products, and essential items,
  • travelling to a health structure,
  • travelling to the workplace to carry out professional or commercial work,
  • providing assistance and care for the elderly, minors, or dependent, disabled and particularly vulnerable people,
  • travelling to a bank or insurance company in an emergency,
  • because of force majeure or necessity,
  • leisure activities (walking, jogging, playgrounds, etc.), on condition that you maintain a distance of at least two metres from any other person.

The national police force will be checking that these rules are being observed. Failure to observe them lays you open to the possibility of a fine and imprisonment, as stated in Article 2 of the abovementioned law.
