Medical centres (maisons médicales) to take patients presenting coronavirus symptoms (18.03.2020)

Starting on 18 March, the Grand Duchy's general medical centres will be taking patients presenting symptoms of acute respiratory infection.

The aim of this offer is to keep such patients out of both hospital emergency services and general practice surgeries in order to contain the spread of the epidemic and make it easier for samples for diagnosing infection to be taken by staff equipped with the necessary protection.

The three medical centres of this type in the Grand Duchy will be open on weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The aim of this new type of operation of the medical centres is to offer people suffering from an acute respiratory infection a healthcare chain based on three aspects: reception and triage of patients - medical consultation - taking samples.

Minister for Health Paulette Lenert emphasised that "setting up this separate traffic flow is one of the efforts being made by the Government to curb the spread of the virus. It is vital to gain time, given the scale of the epidemic."

To allow these medical centres to operate properly, only go there if your general practitioner tells you to do so.

Three duty medical centres (maisons médicales de garde) are available throughout the Grand Duchy:

  • Luxembourg City - 59 Rue Michel Welter, L-2730 Luxembourg

  • Esch-sur-Alzette - 70 Rue Émile Mayrisch, L-4240 Esch/Alzette

  • Ettelbruck - 110 Avenue Lucien Salentiny, L-9080 Ettelbruck

The possibility of setting up a similar medical structure in the eastern part of the country is currently being investigated.
