Extreme weather in the southern part of the Grand Duchy - situation at 12 noon on Sunday (11.08.2019)

The Government's Crisis Cell met at 11 a.m., chaired by Minister of the Interior Taina Bofferding and in the presence of Mayor Pierre Mellina and Alderman Frank Pirrotte, to take stock of the situation in the municipalities of Käerjeng and Pétange and decide on the action to be taken in the coming hours and days.

The authorities' priority remains focused on houses with damaged roofs that have not yet been completed covered or sealed.

It has therefore been decided to increase the resources available by mobilising more extending ladders to be able to keep up a fast pace of work. The CGDIS is currently working on 15 houses at the same time.  The work being carried out by private companies is also being supervised and prioritised by a CGDIS agent.

There are currently more than a hundred firefighters from twenty firefighting and emergency centres and the Logistics Support Centre working in the field. They are backed by about forty soldiers and teams from the municipalities. The police is still present in the area, to ensure security.

There is no change in the human toll. The municipality of Pétange rehoused 26 people last night; the figure for the municipality of Käerjeng was 31. The aim is for as many of these people as possible to be able to return to their homes in the course of the evening.

The hotline at 8002 8080 is still open. The Psychological Support Group is also available at any time in case of need.

The Crisis Cell is continuing to keep an eye on the evolution of the situation.
